Electric Catamaran FULL TOUR [44' L X 23' W, 7.2KW of Solar + 32kwh Lithium Battery Bank]
Welcome, to Indigo Lady. This WAS a 2002 44' Voyager sailing catamaran. But then was converted into a fully solar electric powered vessel. With 7,200 watts of solar panels, and a total 32kwh lithium battery bank. This boat has gone just as far as my own sailboat. Proving the functionality of this electric boat as an international cruising dream home/boat.
In this video we tour through the entire boat. Showing you how functional & livable this boat really is. As well, we then sit down with the owners David & Lisa. Together we discuss their life on the boat, and how it all came to be.
Next week I'll post the "How-To" video on the boat. Where David shares all the in depth knowledge about how be made this boat. Till then, if you'd like more info. Check out the google doc below that details all of David's hard work and how he made this incredible boat.
David's Google Doc:
"Indigo Lady Conversion to Solar, my Reflections After Six Years of Cruising."

Spearfishing MASSIVE Cubera Snapper [Bahamas Polespear Fishing]
Переглядів 25 тис.День тому
Cubera snapper are THE apex reef predator fish. They rule the reef, even chasing sharks away when they want. They are powerfully strong, have large thick scales, and big teeth. Yet are very smart and often know to avoid humans. BUT they are VERY tasty. Hands down my favorite reef fish to eat with delicious flakey white meat. Many incorrectly assume a tropical large reef fish like this would hav...
Rogue Waves Nearly Sinks Sailboat

THIS is never supposed to happen! On a very calm, dead flat day in the Bahamas. Two rouge waves crashed over and through my sailboat! Situations like these are rare, but if the boat had been sideways, or hatches were left open. Major damage or even my sailboat sinking might have happened. I want this video to show how chaotic the sailing life can be. One day is super easy calm bliss, the next h...

Fantastic design. The great thing about solar is that the cost curve keeps going down while the output goes up. Lifepo4 batteries are steadily decreasing in cost along with panels. If you’re living in the right place, you can take your home off grid easily today. 👍⚡️☀️🌞

Been there, done that. In 1992 I was in the Gambier Islands, French Polynesia. We went for a walk in the bush, and I got some daytime mosquito bites (night mosquitos carry malaria and day mosquitos carry dengue). A couple of days later, we left for the Marquesas, a 800 mile close reach across the trades. By day two I came down with a high fever. We got on the ham radio with the Pacific Maritime net, and they got Dr John from New Zealand on the line. After a couple of questions, he said "you've got dengue, mate. Its really common there". He told us there was no treatment but tylenol and lots of water, NOT any aspirin or ibuprofen. He said it should last about 5 days, then I should get a whole body rash. That's about all I remember for 4 days. Fortunately we had my wife Nurse Katie and Henry on board, because there was no way I could stand a watch. Katie threatened me with an IV if I wasn't drinking, and that worked till one night when I was delirious and thought I was recovered. On day 6 we arrived in Atu Hiva, and I helped set the anchor and went back to bed. The next day my fever broke and I got the rash. I wasn't totally over it for another 2 weeks, and I lost about 15 pounds.

@Adventureman_Dan You should always turn your air vents towards aft when under way, even if they're Dorade vents. Scuppers are drains at the edge of decks. You should also close and dog down most hatches when under way, definitely any that are forward or side facing. Not closing hatches can cause sinking. Rogue waves usually means sudden, tall, breaking waves in the middle of the ocean, not at an inlet, where one could expect waves due to geography.

At 52:35 I shorted myself out once, and I mean only once on 2, 8D batteries in parallel so only 12 volts but 2,700 amps in total. My left knee was touching the shaft and my right elbow touched the positive post and MY GOD, I SWEAR THAT I SEEN THE INSIDE OF MY SKULL !!! It was all that I could do to climb out of the engine room. 27:23 respectfully: His rigging appears to be SS which doesn't show its wear to the naked eye; I know first hand from bad experience and parting turnbuckles that had cracks I couldn't see during my spring inspection. The boat was then sailed only on the great lakes too -but kept in Port near a nuclear power plant with a railroad almost directly overhead: The iron rail dust significantly contributed to the SS corrosion and subsequent brittleness/crazing. If your SS rigging is 10 years old and you are looking to do any serious offshore sailing.... REPLACE IT ALL! I Almost lost my mast on silly little Lake Huron in a micro burst because I failed to do a UV dye/fluorescence inspection. If you want my advice as a seasoned sailor who lived aboard 5 years and sailed Davis Strait, crossed the Atlantic.... Go with brass if you are weak at preventative maintenance. Brass/bronze- it will show its wear and give you AMPLE warning before it fails. Replace more often, yes but keep spares and have sound mind and be alive. 🙏

Thank you for keeping an open mind about the unlimited potential of a solar powerful electric catamaran. There is so much misconception and misunderstanding. Similar to an EV and as Dave said you have to change your thinking and slow down with today's battery technology. Heavy boats with high voltage and massive battery banks like Silent Yachts are not the way to go. Light weight and big solar are the future. Silent boating sustainably should be encouraged as not everyone has the abilities or desire to sail, especially as they get older. As you understand this is the future and one that many want to embrace with minimal use of fossil fuels.

One of the dumbest things I have ever seen? 7k of solar... Wow, what kind of range? 25 miles?!?!? What?!?!?! I like how the panels are mounted. That should be an interesting ride in high winds. With current battery tech, I would NOT want them on a boat..... Thermal run away is real and the quality of batteries can be an issue.. The video mentions DOUBLING battery capicity and getting 50 miles range!!! So, they only get 25 miles range? Wth..... Beyond dumb..

doing this again today you would use model3 75kw packs for 11k ea, probably one in each hull for 150kw, which would give you 120 miles range per day. In any direction, which is different to a sail boat. bump the solar up to at least 12k and you can truly cross oceans. for a reasonable price.
